Announcing the second bi-annual October

the ABOUT THE COMPETITION: The ISTA Solo Competition serves as the preliminary round for the national ASTA Solo Competition. PLEASE NOTE: Students selected during the competition to advance to the semi-finals must submit a live, unedited recording of the required repertoire to the ISTA Competition Chair to be forwarded to the national competition. Please see attached information for complete details on the recording. ALSO NOTE: This competition is intended for advanced students. Only students who participate in the live competition may be considered for advancement to the national semi-final round. The Winner’s Recital for both
divisions will be held Saturday evening October 9, 2010,
at 7:00 PM in Russell Hall, Graham Chamber Music Room,
at the PRIZES: Prizes may be awarded as follows: First and Second Prize, Junior
Division Not all prizes may be awarded. Honorable mentions may also be awarded at the discretion of the judges. The number of students advanced to the national semi-finals is NOT dependent upon the number of winners and is solely at the discretion of the judges. ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to students
of active members of ASTA/ISTA only! The Junior Division is open to musicians under the age of 19 as of March 20, 2011 (born on or after March 20, 1992). The Senior Division is open to musicians 19-25 as of March 20, 2011 (born on or after March 20, 1986 and before March 20, 1992). REPERTOIRE: All students are required to play the repertoire listed for the ASTA National Solo Competition. See www.astaweb.com (click on “competitions”) for complete repertoire requirements. All repertoire MUST BE MEMORIZED. ACCOMPANISTS:
You may bring your own accompanist or you may request an accompanist by filling out the attached form. For performers using an accompanist provided by the competition, a $30 fee will be assessed. This will include a 30-minute rehearsal and the competition performance. You will be assigned an accompanist and a rehearsal time upon receipt of the completed application and fee. WINNERS’ RECITAL: The winners’ recital will be held on Saturday October 9 at 7:00 PM in the Graham Chamber Music Room, Russell Hall, at UNI. Prizewinners in both the junior and senior divisions will be selected to perform. All prizes will be awarded at this time. All competitors are encouraged to attend. APPLICATION FEE:
$50.00 Please make checks out to ISTA and memo “solo competition” JUDGES: There will be 3 judges for the competition. All judges will be experts in the field of string performance. No judges will be permitted to have students in the competition. MUST BE POSTMARKED BY SEPTEMBER 15, 2010! SEMI-FINALISTS RECORDING: Contestants selected during the state competition by the state competition committee to advance to the national semi-final round must submit a live, unedited recording of the required repertoire and the national contest entry fee and application to the ISTA Solo Competition Chair no later than November 1, 2010. If you are selected to advance to the semi-finals
